Introducing Mars for 100% Production Inspection
Today, Lumafield is announcing the general availability of Mars, our in-line arrayed X-ray system for manufacturing environments where coverage and throughput both matter. Designed to integrate directly into existing production lines, Mars inspects every part at full conveyor speed without fixturing or other interruptions to the production flow.
Conventional in-line X-ray has long been used to catch obvious defects, but the value of the data produced has always been constrained. Mars connects production-line X-ray inspection to Lumafield's powerful cloud-based software platform, turning every scan into a data point that feeds automated decision-making, process monitoring, and organizational reporting. Beyond pass/fail screening, the value of the Mars inspection solution compounds as data accumulates across runs, shifts, and sites.
Speed has also limited organizations’ abilities to conduct 100% inspection. In defense and electronics applications, a failed sample can force an entire batch into scrap, while in automotive lines scaling visual inspection is costly and still misses the internal defects that can lurk in injection-molded parts and assemblies.
Mars changes the equation by integrating with existing conveyor systems to inspect at line speed, flagging bad parts and letting good ones through without slowing production. Reaching speeds of up to 2.5 feet (760 mm) per second, Mars keeps pace with even the fastest manufacturing environments. Designed to fit seamlessly into existing lines, source and detector configurations can be arrayed to match how parts are presented on the line and the specific regions of interest for inspection. Mars is available in both 2D and 2.5D arrayed configurations. The multilinear 2.5D architecture captures depth information in a single pass, producing richer defect visibility for challenging applications. Configurable sorting and rejection options give teams control over how flagged parts are handled downstream.

"In-line X-ray inspection has existed for decades, but these systems have always been limited by the intelligence of their software. Mars uses AI to solve quality issues that were previously impossible to address with automated X-ray inspection," said Andreas Bastian, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Lumafield. "The manufacturers we work with are under pressure to move faster, catch problems earlier, and do more with leaner teams. Now every unit that moves through the line generates information that feeds back into how the process is run and how quality decisions get made across the entire organization."
Mars tracks feature distributions across production runs, surfaces drift before it becomes a yield problem, and gives quality and operations teams a shared view of what's happening on the line. The solution is suitable for a wide range of applications, from high-value components like electronics and automotive parts to high-volume commodity inspection for consumer packaged goods and batteries. Mars even scans products through their packaging, giving logistics operations a way to sort defective units from valid returns before ever breaking open a seal. It can also be leveraged alongside other Lumafield inspection solutions to more deeply support the quality demands of enterprise organizations. Organizations that need to go deeper can route flagged batches to Triton Performance for full 3D CT, confirming whether parts are truly defective and characterizing failure modes without scrapping units that would have passed a closer look.
Mars is a powerful addition to the Lumafield platform for manufacturing intelligence. As organizations deploy Lumafield solutions across development and manufacturing, inspection findings accumulate into an overarching quality record that spans product lines, supply chains, and manufacturing facilities. Voyager serves as a command center for that intelligence, consolidating data from every stage of the workflow into a single environment where quality teams can monitor, analyze, and act. Complete visibility from Lumafield empowers organizations to operate with certainty at scale, driving the quality optimizations that translate directly into business performance.
