The solutions to humanity’s hardest problems depend on manufacturing. Getting manufacturing right means solving those problems faster and more efficiently. Lumafield is here to make it possible for humanity to solve our hardest problems as quickly as possible.
Our company was formed when we asked ourselves what the world would look like if we could see inside anything. What if you could diagnose problems with assemblies immediately? What if you could find invisible cracks that would otherwise lead to huge product recalls? What if you could understand changes in manufacturing lines over time?
What if we could scan and analyze every feature on every part, inside and outside, and truly close the loop between design and manufacturing?
Lumafield was founded in 2019 by a team of engineers with experience in designing, manufacturing, and shipping products with global impacts. Their firsthand experience going from first sketches to mass manufacturing highlighted a major gap in the product development process. While products and fabrication technologies had become more complex and sophisticated, the debugging tools that engineers used to solve their design problems were stuck in the 19th century.
Engineers can only do their best work when they have access to the best tools. When engineers are at their best, the products they deliver are more functional, cost-effective, and sustainable. Lumafield empowers engineers to see their work in a new light with the power of X-ray vision.

"We believe that better manufacturing is the answer to some of the world’s most pressing problems, and that more data will lead to more knowledge, driving faster innovation and better products. It's a pattern we've seen with other investments like Planet and Matterport. Lumafield is giving engineers unprecedented visibility into their work, helping them create and manufacture products that are higher-performance, more reliable, and more sustainable."

"At Kleiner Perkins, we’ve invested in history-making companies building everything from PCs and smart devices to next-gen warehouses and data centers. We know how hard it is to manufacture at scale. Making a physical product without being able to peer inside it is like writing code without the ability to debug, yet that’s what most engineers in the world have to live with today. By making CT scanning ubiquitous, low-cost, high-throughput, collaborative, and flexible, Lumafield is revolutionizing the quality control, failure analysis and debug process in the production of physical goods."

“We invest in companies that have high-quality teams, deep understanding of customer needs, and transformative market opportunities. Lumafield is an outstanding example of all three qualities. The company is made up of world-class engineers who have decades of experience delivering products. They understand the need for CT scanning firsthand, and have what it takes to democratize this previously inaccessible technology into an everyday tool that changes the way engineers work.”

“When we were developing the iPod and iPhone, we relied on X-ray CT scanning. In those days we had to use outside services to get these expensive scans and wait days for results. Even today this critical tool is only accessible to giant companies. But that’s going to change quickly: Lumafield puts these insanely powerful tools on engineers’ work benches around the world.”
