Lumafield Scans in Nike’s Kobe 10 Protro Campaign
On August 23, Nike is releasing the Kobe 10 Protro, a rebuilt version of Kobe Bryant’s 2015 signature shoe. The launch campaign includes stills and video made from Lumafield scans, showing the shoe from the inside out.
The Protro program, short for performance retro, updates celebrated silhouettes with modern components. Nike’s release describes a redesigned engineered mesh upper, Cushlon 3.0 foam paired with a full-length Zoom Strobel in place of the original Lunarlon and heel Air Zoom, and an outsole reengineered using Nike Sport Research Lab movement data. The carbon fiber forefoot wing, the shoe’s most recognizable structural element, returns unchanged.
Most of that engineering sits below the surface. The Cushlon foam and the Zoom Strobel are sealed inside the midsole, and the carbon fiber wing disappears under the upper the moment the shoe is assembled. The campaign opens all of it up. An exploded view built from Lumafield X-ray CT scan visualizations tells the story in a way a simple photo never could.
We’re proud to work with Nike to showcase the engineering that helps honor the legacy of one of basketball’s greatest players.
The Kobe 10 Protro debuts August 23 in the Halo colorway, with additional colorways releasing through 2026.
